1926 Census - The Story of Us

Ambassador Martin Fraser introduces Census 1926

The room was literally buzzing with census discoveries!
The Story of Us - 'Census 1926' UK launch took place at the Irish Embassy and LIF Comms & Heritage Officer, Dr Elleesa Rushby attended a fantastic presentation and Q&A. LIF uses Census information and Irish vintage newspapers to enrich heritage projects about the way of life we left behind before emigrating to the UK as well as offering informal advice on family history tracing.

We also help survivors of historic institutional abuse to find out more about their birth families and background information.
This was the first census conducted in an independent Ireland and it provides a unique snapshot of a bygone time.

The NAI has made the entire census, comprising over 700,000 individual household returns, freely available and fully searchable online.
