The
Tuesday Club
The Tuesday Club has been another of the success stories of the Luton Irish Forum .Mainly composed of the elderly – the club is well organised and creates a friendly atmosphere for people to meet new friends, have a chat and a cup of tea, a game of bingo. The club has continued to develop it’s monthly outings to places of interest. Outings to the seaside have proved very popular and always attract a full coach load. Outings to the theatre, as well as outings to meet
fellow countrymen and women in places like Coventry, Birmingham and Derby are also very popular. All these outings are generously subsidised by the club and are excellent value for money.
The Club is run by the members with Martin O’ Hehir counting the money and Pat Leonard organising and cracking the Bingo jokes etc.. The facilities available to us however are pathetic , inadequate , and unsanitary .There is no disabled access which prevents us from helping, and offering our services , to a very needy section of our community. Roll on the day when we will have a proper , fully accessible, dedicated Irish community centre in Luton . That day is we hope not too far away. The elderly are often marginalized in our society, and combating loneliness and isolation, is one of the priorities of the Luton Irish Forum. We are very much aware that there are many more elderly who if given the opportunity, and the facilities, would gladly avail of an opportunity to improve their quality of life.
