Pat's
Story
My
name is Pat Leonard, I was born in Carbury, Co.Kildare on the
13th March 1936. I have 4 brothers and 4 sisters.
We did not have electricity or running water, thank god we all
survived without it. I had to walk 2 miles to school in all
types of weather. At fourteen I left school, just as I was
beginning to learn and things were beginning to sink in much
better.
I
got a job in a public house in Edenberry. I stayed there for
four years. At the age of 18, I set sail on the boat for
England. I landed in London and found myself a job in Mooneys
Public House in The Strand, which I believe was the longest
bar in the world. I stayed there about 6 months and then got a
live-in job in the Spaniards Inn on Hampstead Heath, I stayed
there for 2 years.
I
then took a job on the buses and stayed there until I retired
in 1996. I must say I really enjoyed my lifestyle in England
